Hi! My name is Anna, and I’m going to
Arop
(AH-rop)
tell you about Arop, a small village in Papua
New Guinea where my mother grew up.
Arop used to sit on a thin strip of beach that
we call a sand spit, and all the houses were
built on stilts. Because my mother lived on
the beach, she learned how to
use a canoe when she was
only three years old! Her
father would work in the
garden, and her mother
would make yummy food.
Sometimes her brothers
would climb coconut trees,
and get the fruit to eat and
drink the juice inside.
Coconuts were her favorite,
and now they’re my
favorite too!
